I just use big cheap plastic totes I got from Lowes. I think I have three right now that saw "Beer" on them.. They fit nice onto the cheap shelving I put in the garage.

I use zip-lock sandwich bags to store the small items then place the baggies in a shoe box or cigar box. I also use gallon zip-locks to store clean/sanitized transfer tubing and put that on a shelf.
I use one of these. Keeps all of my small items organized, including my refractometer, thermometer, salts, gram scale, fittings, airlocks... on and on...
