Looking for opinions here for my HERMS coil guys. To try to make this somewhat cost effective....would I be better off with:

25' of 1/2" Stainless steel coil
or
50' of 1/2 Copper coil

I will be doing equal amounts of 5-10 gallon batches

Im right just under 25' of copper(mounted in the kettle) with mine and it works great. Are you considering mounting in the kettle or doing a immersion style?

Copper will transfer heat more efficiently than stainless. This from a person with a stainless herms coil.

I asked because you will need more if you have the tales hanging out the top but 25' mounted inside should be plenty. I only set my hlt 1-2 degrees warmer then my set mash temp and it holds great.
