Like scottthorn, I happen to be a big fan of Odell's seasonal Extra Special Red. I'm not usually one for reds, as they're generally a bit cloying to me, but the ESR is clean drinking, nicely flavored, and wicked strong.

Has anyone tried to clone it? Or have ideas as to how they brewed it?

I had another one last night. Mmmmmmmmm....

Thanks again to HarvInSTL for bringing some to a brew session - otherwise I never would have tried it. Odell doesn't describe the ingredients on their website, so any educated guesses would be appreciated.

Sorry to revive this old thread, but I was wondering if anyone ever made any progress on the quest for Odell's Red?

I tasted this recipe a few months ago and thought it was almost spot on.

62% Pale Ale Malt
25% Munich 10L
6% Munich 30L
5% Crystal 40L
2% Crystal 80L

OG 1.078

40-45 IBU Chinook at 60 min
2 oz Chinook, 1 oz amarillo, 1.5 oz centennial end of boil
2.5 oz amarillo, 1 oz centennial dry hop

Wyeast 1056 or 1227

I think he meant 1272 and not 1227.
