It will be on top of a grill pad. Any reason to worry? I already have a cheapo turkey fryer. Was thinking about upgrading to something with a little more umph. Couldn't find any composite decking related threads on search, only wood.

Well, there's always reason to worry when using open flame. However i wouldn't hesitate to brew on my composite deck. I wouldn't worry about the heat. I use a grill with in 6" of my rail and have never had any issues. Although, a boil over would probably leave a nasty stain.

With the grill mat there, you should be good. I was nervous and made a tile pad with 12x12 tiles and a 2'x2' sheet of plywood.
also helped keep boilovers/drips off the wood deck.

I brew on the cement area of my patio, RIGHT against my composite deck which is a step up. so, it's even closer to the burner. So far, no issues.
