I have 2 beers that are finishing up in my fermenters. One is a pumpkin ale and the other is a scottish wee heavy. I plan to rack them to the keg here in the next week or so. I figured I'd try my hand at harvesting some of the yeast from them to cut down on costs.

I have a 1000ml elenmeyer flask. What are the steps for washing/saving the yeast?

That yeast washing illustrated is the best source I've read. Also, washing yeast is better from lower-grav beers. If your wee heavy is really big, the yeast might be too stressed out to re-use. Cheers!

Question JonM, if you brew a big beer and then wash yeast they can be to worn out even when making a starter?
