I just Kegged up the “Oaked” APA that I made a few weeks ago.

One word…awesome.

I Cut up some white Oak that I had into ½ inch cubes and toasted them up in some tin foil on the grill. I turned them then every few minutes until all sides were dark but not burned. I added 1.5 oz to the secondary at the same time I dry hoped .75 oz of cascade.

The flavor is not subtle but not overpowering either. This is a pretty Hoppy APA with magnum and Cascade and it balances well. If I was going for a lighter flavored beer 1 oz would have been plenty. (1 oz of ½ in cubes does not look like a lot). It did darken the color some compared to the non oaked batch.

I can’t wait for another week of aging and carbonation in the keg. :ban:

Ive always boiled my oak chips to sterilize them. When your done the water will be black.

I thought that too. I was going to use just an oz and it was 8 cubes. so I used 12. maybe mine weren't as dry and light as cubes from a home brew shop
