Setting up my Herms unit, and am wanting some input on the diameter and length of the coil for my HLT. I will have two bulkhead fittings, each measuring 1/2 inch. Therefore I was thinking of using 1/2 inch cooper, partly due to the fact all of my lines fitting are 1/2 inch so it should help with flow. I hear most people use 3/8 inch at a length of 25 feet, but would perhaps 10ft of 1/2 inch be just as good?

Nope. If my numbers are correct, 1/2inch nets you an extra 75% surface area, but you would need to have about 15ft of 1/2inch to get an equivalent surface area to 25ft of 3/8inch.

Whether or not 10ft is enough, though, is a different question, depending on your flow rate, agitation, desired speed of temperature change, etc.
