This place was recently remodeled and has gone upscale. A word to the budget concious, you could easily spend $60 on lunch for two just ordering small plates.

By the way, if you are in the Philadelphia area, the owner of de Garre, Carl, recommends the Monk's Bar.

Tell Matthew Gyer that Carl from De Garre says hello.

More excellent pics! Looks like you are having a fantastic trip.

Dude, we prb have more Belgian beer bars and beer than any prb place in the states ....Heck, Garrett Oliver posted on Beeradvocate.com that Phila is the largest market for Belgian beer in the US. Monks is the shizzle.

Awesome pictures. good thing you took pictures cause with all that beer I bet the trip is a blur.

This is a fairly small production brewery split between the current equipment and the historic equipment.
As you'll see, some of the "museum pieces" are the envy aof alot of us homebrewers and we would all make good use of the equipment.

The current stuff has been in use since 1960.

This is the copper floor of the wort cooling room. Wort is pumped up to the fourth floor and then the windows are opened up.

Hmm, we may have to talk. I will be in Belgium next November (13months 23 days to be exact) and I would be very interested in doing the same thing.

I'd be happy to help out in any way. I've got two more write ups on Ghent and Antwerp that I'll get to next week.
