Picked up a challenger VI last night from a local bar owner. Planning on reconditioning all o-rings but I noticed that the o-rings on the dip tubes do not look like the standard doughnut shaped ones that come in replacement packs. The o-rings on my dip tubes (will post pics tomorrow) are flat on the sides and have a cupped underside that fits perfectly on top of and over the bare post. Has anyone seen this before? I can't find any replacements online that look like this. Thanks in advance for any help.

You sure the o-rings aren't just deformed normal ones? They look like what you're describing if they've been left in place long enough.

Possibly. The tubes were really difficult to remove like the rings were glued to the posts.. But the o rings just look like they were manufactured that way.

Sounds like the quad seal o-rings.

I guess my real question is: assuming I have just a normal challenger VI, will using the standard replacement o-rings be okay?

They use a weird flat o ring. It's not a donut like others. Either reuse it or stack a couple o rings to get it to fit. This has the plastic inserts in the posts too right?

Hmm no plastic inserts that I can see. Can you tell me more about them?

You're probably thinking of the older firestone challenger kegs (not the challenger V or VI). I have 3 challenger V and VI kegs, and they don't have any plastic inserts, and a standard o-ring fits them perfectly.

They were used on the older Firestone Challenger and John Wood 85 style kegs. If you're sure your keg is a challenger VI, then you don't need to worry about them. Here's what they look like though-

Yea it clearly says Challenger VI on the side. Spartanburg, SC. Thanks for the help. Just going to pick up a standard o-ring replacement kit.

Here is a pic of the mysterious o rings.

they're not all that mysterious. mcmaster carr sells square o-rings. they seal with less pressure than round o-rings.

Do the standard lid o-rings work for these type of kegs?

I just got a Challenger VI for $25, and it needs extensive renovation. It looks like whatever was left in it dried out 15 years ago and left a ring I hope will come off with PBW. What would be the next option to get grime off? CLR? I have some but have never used it on my brewing equipment.

The keg also has the plastic gas diptube and it was missing the liquid post. The lid looks like it still has a working pressure relief valve, but it does look like it might be deeper than the newer lids. I have not compared it against my current keg parts, but I know I will need to get a few new parts to get it in working order. Going to work on cleaning it first.

This looks like where I will get my post from, unless my local store has some.
