Quick question, has anyone ever aged a barleywine in a 5 gallon torched oak barrel or for that matter on a bed of oak chips in a fermenter. Did it taste good? Just had the thought, I heard that a good BW can be aged 25 years or more. not that it would make it that long but id like to try for a couple years.

A little oak goes a long way.

I like a slight taste of oak, but it is easy to over do it.

Do some research.

It would have to be a very well used oak barrel to fill it for years and wind up with a drinkable product. I'd imagine it would only take a few days to acquire enough oak flavor in a new barrel.
