Too Much Water in Primary Fermentor?

Hi - I am making the Caribou Slobber beer from Northern Brewers

After I was done cooking my beer I had set up the primary fermentor with two gallons of water. Then I poured in my wort and it came out to about 6 gallons instead of 5. Is this an issue?

your FG will be lower.
Normally when you are doing an extract batch you want to put all the wort into the carboy first, then top up to 5 gal.

Also... now that you're pretty much at the top of the carboy, you will for sure need a blow off tube or you will have a blow out

, they're always fun!

You were right. It exploded last night. I cleaned it up as much as I could and resterilized everything again with a blow off hose. Hopefully there are no issues going further.

shouldn't really have any issues as long as you cleaned up and sanitized everything that is going to plug the hole. Hopefully it wasn't too messy! those are a pain
