Adding whiskey to an Irish Red

I just started primary fermentation on an Irish Red Ale last night (NB's starter kit Irish Red), and I was thinking that some Irish whiskey might complement it well. Any thoughts on how best to accomplish it?

Possibilities I've considered include soaking some oak chips (fermentation's already started, so it might have to sit in secondary for a couple of days before I've had time to get the chips and soak them) or simply adding some whiskey straight to the bottling bucket.

Would one work better than the other?

I would say go with the oak chips. You wont get much but adding ABV if you add it straight.

Adding whiskey to an Irish Red is easy. Keeping her from finishing the bottle might take some effort.

Adding it to beer, the best way is to just add it to the bottling bucket.

I made an oaked barrel porter with 2 cups of bourbon. soak the chips for 48hrs and pour it into the secondary then rack on top. the whiskey will give a nice bite at the end of the sip.
