Just installed a weldless 1/2" bulkhead in my brew pot. I recall reading in one of Charlie Papazian's books where he recommended disassembling the bulkhead after each brewing session to sanitize it, stating there were lots of hiding spots for nasty stuff. I'm wondering how many do this? My thoughts were after a 60 minute boil and being pretty close to a propane flame, the bulkhead would be pretty much sanitized without the need to disassemble. Am I missing something?

Thanks Bobby,

He also mentioned bottling bucket spigots in a different part of the book, but gave special mention to bulkheads as well.

The valve on a kettle will get over 180F so sanitation is not an issue. The valve may be gunked up after many uses and no cleaning, but nothing is living in it.
