Hi guys,

I'm experimenting with an AG imperial pumpkin ale recipe and had a question as to how I should scale up the hops. Here's my grain bill:
- 12lbs 2 Row
- 3lbs Crystal 60
- 2lbs Biscuit
- 3/4lb Flaked wheat
- 1/2lb Lactose

-75oz pumpkin purée

The original recipe (14lb grain bill) called for .9oz of East Kent Golding, but I want to use Magnum (14.4%). what amount should I use? Oh yea, the lactose was an addition I made as well.

Your magnums are about 3X as bitter as the EKG. I'm assuming you want roughly the same bitterness so use about 1/3 oz of the Magnum. Of course with the added 1/2 lb of Lactose- Lactose is an unfermentable sugar so it will add sweetness and a bit of mouthfeel. You should increase the hops to balance that out if you want to maintain the same bitterness. 1/2 oz of the Magnum should be about right.
