If you look at the white labs website, there appears to be yeasts for "professionals" and "homebrewers." Does anyone know the difference between the two?
 
Probably some breweries pay them to culture and maintain their specific yeast strains. I would also guess that if you buy as a professional you're buying in MUCH larger quantities.
 
If you look closely (and this is also the case for Wyeast), there are many yeasts in common to both lists. And they do maintain pure strains for breweries, which are, on rare occasions, offered to homebrewers.
