I'm trying to step up to all grain. I would like to start with 5 gallon batches. And I'm on a budget. I found a 1/4 barrel keg for CHEAP. I'm thinking I could turn it into a nice little keggle to boil in....but I don't have a burner.

Could I use my propane grill ?? is got some pretty THICK steel plates above the burners....think it would work ? anyone try this ? (temporarily)

someday I will find a 1/2 barrel and pick up a real burner...but untill then This is sounding like a good plan. whata u guys think ?

I have tried it before but didn't have much success. I lost too much heat around the parts of the grate that were not covered and ended up not being able to achieve a boil. Maybe if you had some fire resistant bricks or something to prevent heat loss, but honestly I don't know how well it will work.
