I have a hard cider in the primary, and I plan on racking onto toasted oak chips for a couple of weeks before bottling. Should I sanitize them before using, and how?

Yea - I read over at Probrewer that they like to use those Cocoa chips that are used for mulching. Talk about wondering about sanitizing.

I've used the tip from a previous zymurgy:
-Place the chips/cubes in a microwave safe container and just barely cover w/ water & cover the container
-microwave until the water boils
-Let sit for 2 minutes
-repeat 2xs
You can pitch both the wood and the water.
