Killer IC deals I found on Ebay

I found several IC chip assortments for a darn reasonable price. Two selections were for 30 each 74H series and 4000 series Cmos chips, there are several 27 piece old number assortments and 7400 series TL's. I also found a bunch of nice parts assortments in nice seperated plactic boxes. My search criteria was "electronic Assortments". The vendors are mostly in China, but have free shipping. If anyone would like a vendors list LMK and I will be glad to put it up. I hate going to China to get parts, but the difference in price makes it almost stupid to not consider the idea as a source of parts. Chips I pay 4.00 each for I get 5 for the same price as one from Chinese exporters. You just have to plan your project assembly day about 2 weeks out and youre good to go. I also use them to restock my assortments and refill my stock so I keep a few common parts stocked and on hand at all times. Just a thought if you looking to save a buck on parts.

That's actually a bit expensive compared to just buying what you need from Mouser. http://www.mouser.com/

There are several other similar outfits that have similar pricing and pretty much any IC you would ever want to play with.

Yeah, the thing I liked was an assortment of the more common parts in a nice little tackle box type tray. It really helps me keep everything neat and organized so I can find it later and can tell at a glance what I need to order from mouser and digikey. I guess I have been very lucky so far because all of the stuff I have recieved is in spec and genuine components. I am aware that knock offs and empty shell fakes are a common ploy for parts from china and asia. Thanks a bunch and hope to see more of you in the forums. Welcome to the club!!!

Be a little careful of those "tackle boxes". They sure don't look like they are ESD safe...

Another way to go for logic is something like this:

It's a CPLD already mounted on a PC board. The programmer runs around $10 and it will work for most Altera products. It's essentially 240 or so super gates (and flip flops) that you can hook up any way you want. Get tired of how it's hooked up today, change tomorrow.

Software is a free download off of the web. Learning curve is not as crazy as you might think. You put in a schematic and the software figures out what to do with it.

There are indeed a *lot* of similar boards running up into the tens of thousands of super gates. There are also several people who make them. For the most part, software and programmers are specific to one gate manufacturer.

Setting the CPLD up as a PWM would be easy. Doing analog measurement with it (or even analog multiplexing), not so easy. Mostly it's a way to get around buying bunches of gates and laying out logic pc boards. I generaly use them with a cheap microcontroller (like a PIC). The CPLD does the high speed stuff and the micro talks to the people.
