I have a few home depot plastic Buckets laying around, and I heard that not to use any plastic bucket with a #3 stamp or higher. It has a #2 stamp and I was just wondering if anyone has had any success with these buckets. I was wondering because I live 30 miles from my local brew store.

They will work for a bottling bucket, but are a bit small for a 5 gallon batch. There won't be enough headroom for the krausen.

If you want to use it as a fermenter then you need to buy a lid from a brew store. The one's sold at the home centers don't seal airtight. You can snap them on and move them up&down a little.I used to brew 3gal batches and use them as fermenters but eventually bought a 6.5gal. bucket from Morebeer for $8.
