My dad uses these with wine with great success. Have any of you used these or would they clog too quickly? How do you filter beer if you do? I'm thinking as it comes out of the boiling kettle. I'm kegging now so maybe I shouldn't even worry about it.

Why do you want to filter everything from the boil kettle to the fermenter? There's really no great benefit. If you want clear beer, there's much easier ways to do it.
 
typically when folks are filtering their beer it is after fermentation and they are using a plate filter. i haven't used one yet, but there are plenty of examples at nearly any online homebrew shop. if you are just trying to take a little bit of the trub out, you could use a stainless mesh colander from the kettle to fermenter. using too fine of a filter (post fermentation) is going to take some flavor and/or body with it.

Whirlfloc in the boil, careful racking, a good cold crash procedure will produce overall better results than actual filtering, IMO.

Filtering tends to filter out not only the stuff you don't want, but lots of the compounds you do want in your beer as well.
 
Good points. I've used whirlfloc but didn't notice much of a difference. I was trying to lose some trub and hops really.
 
I always drop my cooled wort to the fermenter through a stainless steel mesh strainer it takes out the break material and the hops. It is nowhere as fine as the filter you have in you picture. I think that will not give you the result you're looking for.
