Since I am a beginner, I am using kits of MrBeer until I gain some confidence in this "new" hobby. I have a question. Most of the MrBeer recipes do not do a hot-break like mentioned in Palmer's book. The boil the water then take it off and add the extract, etc. Should I add them before the end of a boil and try to get a hot break like said in his book? Is this necessary? Thanks!!

From what I've been learning, most of the hot break is already removed from any extract during the manufacture of the extract itself. I would imagine that Mr. Beer kits would be the same. So, I wouldn't bother.

And go get yourself a basic brewing kit! It's really not that hard, and we're here to help. The beer will be MUCH improved.
