“Ode to Yeast” by the Yeasty Brothers

We are Yeast and we are vicious young beasts!
We have been around longer than you have,
And we know how too feast!

There are many of us on this planet here,
We are the secret ingredient in bread, and great beer!
Of our brothers and sisters there are many of us,
Here are some of our names, pretty impressive I trust!

Saccharomyces cerevisiae, we make great ale,
Saccharomyces pastorianus, we brew lager quite well!
Our Yeast family and us, we're all pretty swell!

So the next time you decide to bake bread,
Or brew up a batch of your favorite IPA instead.
Remember the wise words that we have just spoken
It will put a smile on your face, and boost your hemoglobin!

So here’s to all of our long lost cousins,
We have at least, a few trillion dozen!
Thanks go to you, and to your crew,
For all the delicious goodness, you fellas do!

Thanks Pappy, you know I'm not a troll. I've just been on, a rhyming roll! :D

You are a poet, and you are well aware of it!

I'd say you are the poet laureate of HBT, but there was a guy, I think it was JacktheKnife, a long time ago, that was some kind of crazy prodigy. He didn't rhyme though. Maybe one of the old timers here can dredge up some of his stuff.

To my good friends Passedpawn and Stauffbier. You guys are great!!

To Stauffbier,

and to Passedpawn - who I call Pappy.

Thank you guys. Your posts make me happy! :D

Wrote a simple poem to address Mike's wonderings,

I hope his bread works out well, even with all my blonderings.. :D

Pappy, being the HBT poet woud take all my might!

Thank you for the complement, my dear friend Mike!

Making bread with beer yeast is out of sight!

I'm sure that it will certainly work,

But there is one small factor, a little qerk.

Bread yeast and brew yeast

Although go berserk!

Have certain temperatures each of them,

The cool one for wort.

So you'll have to allow a little more time,

For the beer yeast to work in overdrive,

But I am quite certain, all will be fine.

And in the end it will be worthy,

Of your very own rhyme! :D

In regards to JacktheKnife!

After reading some of his posts, I felt the same as most.

He is the true poet laureate on this HBT site,

His words express meaning,

They are totally right!

I don't think I'll ever be that prolific,

But if I could, it would be terrific!

However, I could never be as profound,

His words make me wonder, on the words I expound.

I hope to meet this man someday,

We could raise a few pints to the things that we say.

Hear is to you J. Winters von Knife,

A Poet-Warrior who brings life to LIFE!

Raising a glass of good cheer,

Wishing right now, that you were here. :mug:

I have some old Belgian Wit yeast that's out of date.

Instead of throwing it away,

I'll use it to bake some bread to put on my dinner plate.

If I don't like that,

I'll toss it in the trash... Splat!

Thanks for the inspiration Dan!

You're good with words and a great friend man!

My poetry is getting a bit crappy
I can only roll so long before it gets sappy

As always to my friend Stauffbier
I'm raising a glass to you with good cheer!
To success for your aspirations and goals
They are of great intentions, and good for the soul!

Hoping your bread comes out just right
If you make sourdough like me,
You won't eat till midnight! :D
