Hello -

I am going to brew a light beer this weekend..something lighter...

I saw a quick recipe posted a while ago:
3 lb. Light liquid malt extract
2 lb. Extra Light DME
1 oz. Mt. Hood hops @ 5% AA boiled 60 min.
Wyeast #1007 German Ale yeast
...Might add some Crysral 20

Any thoughts?

#1 – Gone - Amber Ale (Success)
#2 – Drinking - Pilsner Lager (ho..hum)
#3 – Conditioning American Amber - (Sneak peek..Success - very hoppy..best yet)
#4 – Secondary Fat Tire Clone (unsure)
#5 - Primary (Empty - Something Light)

Hey! That's my recipe! Actually it's loosely based on one in Al Korzonas's Homebrewing Vol. 1. As far as light, low alcohol beers go, I like it alot. The first batch of this I brewed sat in the seconary for a month, it came out very clear, and still carbonated well.

The second batch I brewed as a starter for a Belgian Tripel, so I substituted a Belgian yeast. Wow, it is NOT good. Amazing what a difference in flavor just by changing the yeast.

So brew it up, feel free to toss some crystal malt in there. Let me know how you like it.

You can usally buy a light beer cheeper than you can make it. But i ve made one also. Turned out great. If you dont mind spending the money go for it. I used an american ale yeast in mine.

What, no flavor hops? :drunk:

Went with a Vanilla Cream Ale instead.

2 vanilla beans in secondary, but very light none the less. OG was 1.048.

I sliced open the beans and scraped out the vanilla granuals from inside, then diced up the outer sheaths. Mixed it all together with a splash of vodka to sanatize/bring out the flavor in the vanilla. The mixture is sitting in the fridge until this weekend when I rack it.

I'm thinking of dry hopping too.

Does anyone have any experience with vanilla beans, am I gonna get any flavor from this?
