...are a pain in my a$$.

Two hour sparge last night doing an oatmeal stout. No amount of rice hulls in the world would help because the damn liquefied oatmeal would rise to the top of the grain bed and form a nearly impenetrable inch thick layer of oat mud. I'm super tired today.

Been there, done that.

Don't open the valve 100% but let it trickle out for the first few minutes of the sparge. It helps set the grainbed instead of compact it.
