I have a roll of 1/2" pex left over from a renovation and I'm curious if this would work in place of silicone tubing for connecting HLT/mash tun/pumps/ ect....

I plan on using it in conjunction with 1/2" cam lock fittings.

Anyone have any luck with this?

Temperature stability to 200F should be fine. I used HDPE tubing when I started brewing and didn't have any issues.

The advantages of silicone tubing are:

  1. High flexibility
  2. High durability
  3. Fluid visibility
  4. High temperature stability (e.g., getting too close to an open flame)
  5. Inert (won't introduce off flavors)

My main concern is flexibility. But i can see how the lack of fluid visibility would be a major drawback to using pex.

Thanks for the input.
