Unlike food products that contain gelatin, when used in clearing beer, it drops to the bottom and is not in the final product.

If you are concerned about the use of animal products in anything, by all means find an alternative. If you just don't want to consume them, I think you can still use gelatin as it just a clarifying agent and drops out of the beer.
 
You could always use something like Polyclar or Biofine (or, better yet, just let the beer clear naturally by giving it enough time).

Just to be clear for the OP, it's the Biofine Clear that's vegan/vegetarian. The regular Biofine isn't a vegan/vegetarian product. EDIT: Admittedly, I've never seen the non-vegan biofine on any of the homebrew supply sites.
