I'm taking this as great news. I don't think it has much chance to pass this year, but it will return and will make it eventually. That Bricktown area that is referenced in the article has been a political powerhouse and the businesses in that area have been able to get things done.

Do you guys think there could be a negative effect at all from this. I'm mainly thinking of if it causes liquor stores to get out of the beer business. We have some liquor stores with a great selection.

More likely, it will get more people drinking good beer which drive up demand and selection. One thing I couldn't tell was that if they will be able to sell it cold. Our liquor stores have to sell their beer hot right now.

Also, we might even get a trader Joes out of the deal.

things are looking good for me! :ban:

You know, I've lived in Massachusetts for close to a decade, and I'll be damned if I can figure out what the friggin' blue laws are around here.

We have package stores all over the place. No beer or wine in convenience stores (I don't think). I always thought that NO supermarket could sell beer, but, some do. OK, maybe it has something to do with how close they are to the border; nope, the Whole Foods in Hadley, not close to any border, has a great beer and wine section. The damn Price Chopper in Pittsfield not only sells beer and wine, but has hard liquor in a separate section of the store (but you still pay for it at the regular registers).

I was always under the impression that you couldn't buy booze on a Sunday, but the packie down the street is open.

I just don't understand how the rules work, and have given up trying.

Oh, and I wouldn't be worried about the liquor stores going out of business. More competition's a good thing, and if a Whole Foods comes into town they'll bring along a damn good beer selection themselves. You can pick up good beer to go along with your organic produce (*dodging fisticuffs*)

Here in PA, no grocery store carries alcohol. Only liquor stores, beer distributors, and bars can sell booze. If you go into a bar and buy a bottled 40, you can't drink it *in the bar.* You actually have to leave. I don't think distributors and liquor stores can be open on Sundays, but they do allow bars to sell it, although I'm pretty sure only after noon. How archaic. We've got such a bug up our ass about alcohol in this county.

uhhh, great news GEBB.

Only one more century to go.

Yeah, and lest you think I made a mistake, I put 20th on purpose. We DO have one more century to go. :(

Our laws are screwy also. Can't sell over 6. in anything but a liquor store, so we get 3.2 BMC at most stores. However, you can't buy 6. BMC even in the liquor stores. No skin off my back just weird. Also, the liquor stores are closed on Sunday's but you can buy any drink you want at the bar or restaurant. The place you would have to DRIVE home from after imbibing. However, you can go in and buy a corked bottle of wine on Sunday.

AZ:
You can buy a single Bud tall boy on ice at any Circle K or AM/PM gas station counter in PHX.
You can't buy alcohol on election day.
Bartime used to be 12 but is now 1AM.
You are supposed to card anyone under 30. If you knew what someone who was 30 looked like, you probably would know what a 21 year old looked like. The whole under 30 logic is flawed.
You can sell water pipes as long as you or the customer do not refer to them as bongs.
Scottsdale just overturned a propostion that would require lap dances to be 4 feet away.
There are state representives whose sole issue is to allow concealed firearms in bars.
Depending on how things pan out in Nov, we may or may not be allowed to smoke in bars, or just some bars, or??? statewide.
You cannot buy alcohol on an Indian reservation... except in a casino which is the best place (I'm told) to buy cigarettes.

There are some stores around that card EVERYBODY, regardless of age. I've seen sixty- and seventy-year old men ***** and groan as they dig into their wallets for photo ID. The logic is that there is no excuse for the clerk to say "well, he LOOKED 21," but my God; another area where all common sense has completely disappeared.

Only been to UT once and ordered a drink at the airport bar. Bartender requested ID; I was 39-40 years old & looking a bit older than 21 but he stroked my pride. He held onto the ID (not my CC) which I thought was strange but perhaps it's an airport thing. Then 70+ grandma sits down next to me; was carded and he held her ID too. That's when I got to asking wazzup and I guess everyone must relinquish their ID whilst drinking at the bar. Did you get that one too olllllo?

Someonre in UT should explain the I can't order another beer till my beer is finished rule.

It's to offset the multiple wives at a time thing :cross:.

That looks promising, but I'll bet the liquor stores get the "temperence" loonies riled up and on their side.

Odd that you can't copy and paste from that article, but I was going to quote the liquor store owner. To paraphrase, he said something like, "All the big stores will carry cheap crap, and no one there will be able to help customers make a selection. That's where our service really shines."

WTF is he smoking? You ever been to a liquor store in OK? Maybe things have changed somewhat, but the vast majority I've ever been in have about a half a rack of wine, most covered in dust. And the majority of those are gallon jugs. I've never seen a person working on one that looked like they might know a damn thing about wine.

I love the place, but damn it is bassackwards sometimes. I'm not sure I have a lot of faith in my fellow citizens, but let's hope things gets pushed through.

let's see, some of the crazy UT drinking laws are no wine or liquor allowed in grocery stores, and only the state gets to run the liquor stores. All beer is 3.2% and no one can sell alcohol on Sundays. The liquor stores close at 7. All bars are membership only. You can't get in without a sponsor or filling out a membership form.

I've never heard of holding the ID and having to finish one beer before ordering another, but I'll bet that was part of the 'concessions' the church... oops, I mean the state made to be able to host the 2002 Olympics.

Now I live in Oregon and make my own beer so I don't care what the blue laws are here :p

I know what you mean...I was leaving Wally-World in Anniston, AL this evening when people outside the doors were giving away bottled water.

My wife (a Baptist) asked why they were giving water away. They said "Because, Jesus loves you". I said, "If he really loved me then maybe you can get him to turn mine into a beer!"

Man, is my wife pissed! I don't know why they think they are so much holier than everyone else.

I think the Pilgrims are still taking it out on the rest of the States because the Mayflower put their collective a$$es off in MA instead of VA! But that's just a theory...:D

No that didn't happen to me, but THAT for sure would make stop drinking. Thx ultra-invasive "values" government. I'll never drink again.

You mean it would make you stop drinking altogether? Or stop drinking in Utah and/or airports or anywhere your ID is held while drinking?

oh my god - what the hell is wrong with oklahoma? How can anyone live in a place where you need to ammend the constitution to sell beer in a grocery store???

Are you also going to need an ammendment to sell it cold?

i'm just kinda dumbfounded here...

The Utah government cannot outright ban alcohol (yeah 21st amendment), all they can do is make it inconvenient or a nuscience to consume alcohol.

As if this would somehow change my feelings about exercising my rights.

I was being silly, but not perhaps as silly as them.

Apparently you need a license to brew in UT, but homebreing is not officially recognized.

Cripes you guys are making NY sound almost progressive. We just recently were allowed to buy beer before noon on Sundays and liquor stores can be open Sundays too.

I worked for awhile in Penn and found out the hard way about trying to buy beer there. I got some strange looks in the grocery stores when I asked them were the sixers were:D

You can't buy beer before 10a in AZ which really sucks since the NFL early games start at 10a . Need to be proactive and remember to purchase the night before. Only an issue during day light savings time since AZ doesn't change, then the games start at 11. I don't do homebrew in the mornings.
:drunk:

I know, I'm complaining about that? :p

Ok, the AHA website has bogus info. I went to the PA Liquor Control Board's site and found this:

Section 492. Unlawful Acts Relative to Malt or Brewed Beverages and Licensees.-- It shall be unlawful--

(1) Manufacturing Without License. Except as provided herein, for any person, to manufacture malt or brewed beverages, unless such person holds a valid manufacturer's license for such purpose issued by the board. Malt or brewed beverages may be produced by any person without a license if such malt or brewed beverages are produced not for sale and total production does not exceed two hundred gallons per calendar year. Malt or brewed beverages produced in accordance with this paragraph may be used at organized affairs, exhibitions, competitions, contests, tastings or judging provided it is not sold or offered for sale. ((1) amended Feb. 18, 1998, P.L.162, No.25)
