Are there really no active homebrew clubs in San Francisco or nearby on the Peninsula? Bay Area Brew Crew website seems to have disappeared. I know there is Bay Area Mashers in Berkeley and The Draught Board in Oakland (though they meet in San Leandro), but I'd like to find something closer to home.

Sure seems that way, I'm up in SF and talking to Griz at Brewcraft he mentioned that there were no active clubs.

Keep me posted if you decide to start rounding up indications of interest. Would be nice to have something in the city.

Don't know if this club is still active, but they do have a website:

Also, a friend just sent me this; might be another good place to start.

Eh, it's difficult to tell how aware Griz actually is about beer-related activities in the bay. Interesting dude, but I wouldn't count on him for comprehensive knowledge of such things.

Hello!

Hi - I'm Jesse - I write beerandnosh.com. I saw this post when Palefire posting a link to my blog. I'm posting because I actually have an answer regarding the questions of a local homebrew club. Besides writing my blog, I'm also serving as president of the BABC - the Bay Area Brew Crew, a SF based homebrew club. We're an ideal club for intermediate to advanced homebrewers. We do group views, tastings, club comps and regular monthly meetings. Many of our members have over 20 years experience. Why griz didn't recommend us I have no idea - he extends a discount for all homebrew club members and certainly knows all about us.

Personally, I think the experienced feedback from the club has been invaluable. When pouring homebrew for many people, i'm often told "This is the best beer i've ever had!" While I do love the flattery, I know full well that it's a combination of being impressed with homemade beer, as well as just not understanding fully what they're tasting. The club can provide nuanced, detailed feedback, and ask questions about process that help me become a better brewer.

So, if you're interested in joining, I'd be happy to talk to you. Feel free to email me at [email protected].

There is an active homebrew club in San Francisco as of February 2012! We are the San Francisco Homebrewer's Guild and you can find out more about us at http://sfhomebrewersguild.com/ and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/sfhomebrewersguild.

We've have an amazing response, it's clear that the SF homebrew community is ready to rock! As you'll see on our website and Facebook pages we've done several homebrew shares, brew days, and brewery tours since launching, with many more planned. We do a mix of events, some that are more public facing and some that are more education focused just for our homebrewer members. Please sign up for our email list and come out to an event sometime soon!

I'm the founder of the SFHG, Chris Cohen, you can reach me anytime at [email protected].

Cheers,

Chris
