I crimped the end of a piece of stainless steel tubing in my vise for a thermowell project I am working on, but it is still not air tight. Can I snip a piece of lead free solder and drop it down the tubing and then heat the end of the tubing over a propane burner? Do I need to drop flux down the tubing first?

I don't have a torch or I would attempt to solder on the outside of the crimp. Thanks!

You need to use flux made for Stainless Steel like Harris Stay Clean Liquid Flux. But otherwise it should work.
