im headin out to buy water right now.

will be doing a mash of only 2lbs of base malts.

1.25 qt/lb is what i am seeing as the general concensus for mash water volume...

does this take into account how much the grain soaks up, or is that irrelevent? seems like 2/3 of a gallon into 2lbs of grain is goin to leave me with about 2 cups of mash :)

and sparge water volume, how much would you sparge with?

i now have the ability to boil all 5 gallons, although i will probably top off to 5 with near frozen bottled water as it really helps to cool down the wort for us non-IM guys.

thanks!

actually found it in time.

everything went sooooo smooth in this batch. that turkey fryer really made the difference...

only hiccup i had, was trying to heat the water in the oven for mashing and anothe rpot for sparge...lol!
3 hours later and my water is @ 100*.... 5 mins on stove top, all heated up.

anyway, i wanna mash tun cooler, then i can do everything out in the garage, will save a buncha time, and the fam HATES the smell of the hops and barley....some peoples kids.
