Come on jezter I'm sure you could find some time to send a few. What have you been brewing lately?

I've made the commitment that if I can't send bottles....I'm going online and sending a kit! I seem to have an abundance of free shipping coupons from AHS...(Yes...Yes I am still pouting!) so for not much over a $20 bill I can send someting off to a fellow brewer....Hell...I'd waste that on pop and candy next week!
I am the least responsible person I know....and I'm going to do this come hell or high water!

Hey sorry it's been a few days since i've posted but i have recieved 3 boxes of goodies, and would like to thank mr_goodwrench, hagen, and BigKahuna for the boxes sent. Unfortunately time has been fairly precious lately mostly at work so i haven't gotten to indulge just yet. And some of these beers sound amazing, and some styles i have just been waiting to try so this coming weekend should be a good one. again can't thank you guys enough to Alamo and Talley for for starting this and keeping it going.

Oh and everything thus far has made it with no damages or anything.

Glad you got the package in good shape. Don't forget to let that APA finish conditioning. It is pretty special to me because it was the first brew where I used hops that my great-great grandfather planted in the late 19th century! Hope you enjoy & glad that you made it back stateside in good shape.

Petey - I haven't forgotten about you, but things got ridiculously crazy and I got sick. I do have 5 different brews to BMBF next week, so before too long you will have some more to indulge with.

Awesome! I hope the clove ester in that Dunkel Weizen isn't too much, just don't chill it too much, and ENJOY!!!

Ian, I believe my shipment is due at your crib tomorrow......damn that was a long 8 days!

I have "yeast samples" to send from myself and Soperbrew. I hurt myself while brewing last weekend so I've been laid up at home. When I am in good enough shape, I'll get this shipped out. :rockin:

Just joined this group yesterday, but took up Talley’s challenge and got a package out today. You’ll have to let me know how it holds up. Tried re-using a shipping tube. Anybody ever use these for sending bottles before?

My son’s in the Navy on a sub. He’s back in the States until the first part of next year, but he’s been over in the Persian Gulf and had Marines onboard. I hear some of you like to climb out of the torpedo tubes? That’s worse than jumping out of a perfectly good airplane!

Be safe and thanks,
Herm

Edit:
I forgot to put a note in the package. Here's a picture, so when you see it you'll know who it's from

Hey Arnold, that's a neat way to ship. I assume you wrapped the bottles in bubble wrap?

Hey everybody, If anybody is interested in sending Cheeto a care package I have his address..............in Iraq.

PM me if you're interested.

EDIT: BTW, I just called the USPS. You can ship a 12"x12"x6" flat rate box overseas for 10.95$. It's a flat rate, weight is no option.
Just be sure to tell them it's going overseas for military personnel. From what I understand there is a specific customs scheme for these boxes.

Talley got your box here ysterday...awesome set of West coast brews. Gonna try to let that one sit a while if i can, can't thank you enough man.

Haven't really been able to drink too much as of late but i did have a few but i did drink:

a Irish Red ale by Mr_Goodwrench that was awesome and once i get through my favorite 2 brews i plan to try and replicate.

a honey Kolsch-ish by Big Kahuna...never had a Kolsch and my wife who is not a beer drinker loved it enough to ask me to give it a go, and i plan on giving it a shot as well...my taste for beer is a little off after not having any for so long but that thing was crisp and nice.

and also the Wee Heavy that Hagen sent out...one of my favorite beers to make along with the scottish export...should've saved it for a cooler nite cause it really did warm me right up.

thanks again to everyone...need to get some more soldiers to open up on here so that i can send some of my own and seome east coast beers out to the next homeward bound.

Hey man, you're welcome!

BTW, I think the mystery bottle I sent you is Apfelwein. I opened my last mystery bottle the other night and it was hotter than ****!

It ought to be real nice.....1.5 years old.

I'd like to here your opinion on the Brown Ale that I sent you. I tend to be a little judgmental about my own beers. Don't think I'll think one is good enough no matter how good they are. But the brown isn't you're typical brown. I'd like your opinion before telling you more though.

Well Cheeto, SWMBO and I did a little shopping today. Keep on the lookout for a package.:D

I'm dying to post a pic here.....but I want it to be a surprise when I send it to you.

I'll tell you what I was going to send but did not due to APO restrictions, and/or bulky packaging:

Porn......sorry dude.
Pork......I was going to send you a butt load of Vienna Sausages and some Kielbasa, but apparently it offends the locals.
Beef Jerky.....The air filled package just takes up too much space in that box. I'm trying to get the most schwag into that box as I can. Plus, I have a military friend who said when he was in Afghanistan last year, they had more jerky than they could eat. Is this true? If I can MacGuyver the contents in a way that there is any room left, I'll fill the voids with beef Jerky....how's that?
Pirated DVD's I was going to send you Iron Man, The Hulk, and a couple of other new releases. But then I read that it was a No-No on copyrighted materials.
Beer another No-No. (I don't know what's worse....No Playboy, or no Beer?)
Coffee I simply forgot, and now there is absolutely no room for coffee. I'm stuffing 10lbs of **** into a 5lb bag, as the saying goes.
Tobacco Products I don't know if you smoke/chew or not. From what I hear a can of Copenhagen is a valuable bartering token.

I don't know what it's like at the APO/FPO's, but I read that all packages are inspected. I hope people don't rifle through your **** and take what they want. I'm going to give you an inventory in the box so you'll know if you got everything.

Take care, Cheeto.:mug:

Hey Petey, Sorry for being such a slacker, but I finally got your package shipped today. I'll PM you the tracking number.

Tally,

Thank you and your SWMBO

the pirated movies are not a problem here !!! I think they go for $5 each for movies ( I bought the new James Bond 2 days before it came out in the theatre in the states) and there is always Redtube you are right about the jerky there is a 20' wall of jerky here !

for beer I get this Kulmbacher Alcoholfrei - Kulmbacher Brauerei AG - BeerAdvocate

it is not to bad $2.15 for a 16.9oz bottle

I will say the internet sucks here $80 buck a month

thank you again

Cheeto

Ian

Curiosity has gotten the best of me. Did you get the package I sent? UPS tracking has it as being delivered, but that doesn’t always mean anything. My son is stationed in Norfolk and had trouble with someone stealing UPS packages from his porch.

I was the one who sent the bottles in the tube. Getting ready to do a swap and wonder how it worked out and if I should use that method again.

When it comes to sharing my beer, my paranoid mind uses a “no news is bad news” rule. So I’m not necessarily looking forward to a critique, but hope you enjoyed.

Herm

Herm i did get your package a while back and everything made it fine, i made a trip out to the smoky mountains for a little while so i've been kinda out of pocket recently.

Talley,
i think that you may have had 2 bottles of that Habanero Mead hangin around, went to a buddies house tonite and me and him have a small history with apfelwein so i thought i'd screw with him a little and bring some to mess with his head, well we open it up and he takes a healthy swig of it an pulls away telling me that his throat was on fire. Pretty much i tell him that it's just Apfelwein and that he's being a vadge, that is until i taste it....and holy hell that stuff is hot.

So i'm not sure i'm ever gonna use Apfelwein as a tool for mind games ever again and holy hell that stuff was hot man.

Hey sorry fella, i've been out of town alot so not really on the forums as of late, herm and iregularpulse i did get the boxes you each sent out and everything has made it fine. In fact there hasn't been a drop spilled broken or otherwise.

To all who wanted to know what i thought about them i haven't forgotten and will om yall as i get through again i just haven't been at home too much since i got back.

thanks again to everyone involved any word on the next one returning yet?

Don't know how I missed this thread until now, but hey count me in! As a vet myself, I want to let you know how touched I was just reading this thread. You guys are the best. Thank you all very very much. And to my military brothers - welcome home!

Petey,

Late package sent out yesterday. I left the contents entirely unmarked so it might pas if opened. The ones with an ORM-D stickers are Ed's Haus Ale with a handful of homegrown Cascade. The unmarked ones are 12mo old sparkling ApFelWein.

Don't sweat writing a review/critique, just enjoy 'em!

Gentlemen,
This is the coolest program I have ever seen. I just returned from a ten month stint in Iraq in July of this year. I had meddled in some home brewing prior, but uncle Sam decided I had to take a break for awhile. My thanks go out to all of you guys who are supporting this thing.

Well, now that Cheeto received it, I can post a pic of what we sent him. Not all of these items made it into the box....there simply was not enough room.
beautiful_063.jpg

We also sent him another box equally full of goodies for the Secret Santa swap, but I never took a picture. We sent him, coffee (french roast, and Jack Daniels flavored), a french press(for the coffee), all beef summer sausage (no pork products allowed), a mini christmas tree, doughnuts, misc snacks, A Belgian (chocolate bar, not beer), chicken Vienna sausages, etc, etc., etc.

This goes without saying....

but that is SO DAMN COOL. HBTers, You rock so hard. I know Cheeto was grinning ear to ear when he unpacked this. SO DAMN COOL.

And major kudos, Talley, for all your work on this project!

Sent Petey a box of goodies last week. The green flip tops are from Soperbrew. The Wit is labeled W, Belgian Pale Ale is A (BYO Antwerp ale from June, it's very good with age), Triple Six Oaked Tripel is the T. I'm probably forgetting one or two. Let me know if you want any of the recipes. I also included some local micros. Hope you enjoy for the holidays. :mug:

Well guys, I've been home on leave for 12 days now. I head back to the box on saturday. I just want to say how cool it is that you guys are doing this. I know I have received packages from loved ones and they are always great. Cant wait for my return and getting back to brewing!

BTW guys, if you know anyone who wants to help soldiers, anyonesoldier.com is a good place to get names of people over there and you can send them care packages

I wish I would have know about this earlier! I got back from a 13 month tour back in NOV08 and the whole time I dreamed about brewing. I am glad to be on this forum and have gained so much knowledge, and have had just as many laughs. I would have love to be able to see where my brew stands against some veteran brewers like yours. That would be a way to learn as well. I will be off to Germany in JUL09 and that will be an adventure in its own!

A few things that I loved while deployed...

Food spices (as said before) ie, tapatio, and homemade hot sauces are great (hotter the better, entertainment as well as flavor)

Jerky (homemade was always appreciated the most)

Magazines were also awesome.

Cup o noodles and the like were great as well.

I can promise what ever you send will be enjoyed and shared, HONESTLY the action itself really means a lot. The fact that this is even happening is very inspiring. I was in a hostile beer-less nation, I can't think of anything more patriotic then what you are doing!

Let me know whose coming back and what I need to do to send out some of my n00b homebrew. I think I might be able to share a sixer or so...

God Bless you all and Cheers Cake! Happy brewing!

Now thats a package that could help bring a dude back from the depths of any depressing funk he might be in! I see Tapatio! Thats whats up! This is amazing! That will help someone remember what home is all about! Bless all of you. I forgot to mention Ziploc baggies, im sure it was said already in this 12 page thread. Good looking out! ZipLoc's are great!
