found a old plastic 5 gallon jug in the shed. Just wondering if anyone was using one as a primary? Search yielded nothing.

There are literally hundreds of posts relating to this question. I personally wouldn't do it- they are pretty thin walled, and I would think oxygen permeable.

Here are a couple of threads about it:

There are some listed at the bottom of this page, too.

another one... check to see what type of plastic it is and if its not #1 or #2 then pitch it... The "PC kills people vs the PC doesnt kill people" thread is for the FDA to decide...

I wish it werent so, BB are expensive, and glass is dangerous and expensive as well... Buckets can be a hassle, but are cheaper and easier to clean... and we all get to definsive about the brewing equipment we use... lets just leave it there shall we

cheers

huh it says 7. Lemme goodle it. Sorry I'm so lazy, the pc is dead and I'm doing all my research on a iPod lol

In my mind #7 is the worst. According to the Candian government, you shouldn't even drink water out of those (banned). I'd forgo that, and either use a better bottle or a carboy.

LOL wow. Thank you ma'am. My pops says it's older than me anyway. 22 years today as a matter of fact. Happy birthday me.
