Hey all. I picked up a big tub of brewers yeast from whole foods today to use as nutrients for a brew of mead. I am assuming this is 'yeast extract' -- not active, and I don't have to worry about it contaminating the beer any more then any other ingrediant. It was the stuff sold as a vit. supplement. Am I correct in this assumption. Would like to know before blowing a rather expensive 5 gallons of mead in a few daysWink

ps: it's pure. Nuttin added.

There's been discussion recently on one of the other threads about bulk brewer's yeast and if I recall correctly they're dead yeast and won't do anything for your mead but add sediment. Maybe someone else can help me out here?

I'm actually looking for dead yeast. Just he cell walls. Yeast extract. Charles P. says the nutrients from it shorten the fermentation time. Hmm...
