I'm looking to make Yooper's EKG IPA (I have a half pound of hops in the freezer screaming to be used) Though my problem is that, while I have done all-grain in the past, my current set-up only allows for extract brewing. I converted the recipe in beersmith, but the amounts don't seem to be right. Here's what I'm wanting to convert:

10 pounds maris otter
1 pound torrified wheat
1 pound victory malt
8 ounces crystal 80L
mashed @ 154

1 ounce EKG 60 minutes
1 ounce EKG 30 minutes
1 ounce EKG 15 minutes
1 ounce EKG 5 minutes

any help on converting to extract would be most appreciated

If memory serves me right, the conversion is lbs of grain x 0.6 for lbs of DME, or x 0.75 for lbs of LME. This is for base malts. You would keep the specialty grains the same and either steep or mash them. The hops need adjusting for the size of your boil.

The victory and the wheat won't do much unless mashed. A waste of grains that could put a haze in the beer.

Do a partial mash and use a pound of 2-row in it to help convert the wheat.

Id go with the below as a partial mash recipe. It won't be dead on as there isn't any real replacement for Maris Otter but it should be close. And by using the MO as your base grain you'll be able to get a little closer to the intended flavor of the recipe as well as convert the starches in the Victory and Wheat.

6lbs Light LME or 4.8lbs Light DME
2 pounds maris otter
1 pound torrified wheat
1 pound victory malt
8 ounces crystal 80L

Thanks for the info guys!!

I played around with beersmith a bit and here's what I came up with:

There are some differing opinions about victory malt. I'm getting ready to brew a brown ale with almost a pound of victory and I'll just be steeping it. Some people have said that it must be mashed, but (I hope he doesn't mind me quoting him again), Revvy says it can be steeped in his bog road recipe. Of course you won't convert it, but it has low DP anyway. I'm using it for the flavor potential.

Looks good, I'd add around 2lbs of that extract just before the boil starts & the other 4lbs at flameout. This will keep your hopping schedule a little lower since your utilization will be a bit better.

I redid my recipe in beersmith to tweak it for the late LME addition
