On a whim, I used the whisk attachment on my stick blender to aerate my RIS today. It exceeded my expectations and worked extremely quickly. I'll be interested to see the effects on fermentation lag time. If you have one of these, I highly recommend it.
 
Besides the depth limitation of it you're also seriously limited by the use of O2 concentrations in the atmosphere. For a RIS you probably didn't give it enough O2. It could be ok for low to moderate OG batches (under 1.070) but not for bigger brews.
 
It'll be enough. Perfect? No, but enough.

I have a clay mixer that I stir my mash with that for bigger beers I'll stick it in the wort. Friggin thing creates a whirlpool with 12 gallons if liquid. Pretty cool. Lol
 
It'll be fine. I use this, which is basically the same thing. I haven't had a stuck fermentation in years since I started using it.
