Like many here, I recently broke a hydrometer. Luckily I didn't need it right away, as I broke it while cleaning it after brewing. Got me thinking about the need for redundancy with my equipment. Specifically, my hydrometer, glass thermometer and bottle capper. I was thinking that if I broke my red plastic capper half way through bottling a batch I might be screwed. Anyone else have redundancy in this or any other equipment? Do cappers break?

Of course! One broken item could ruin your brew or bottling day. I got a brix refractometer on ebay cheap in case the hydro breaks, I usually have 3 different thermometers in use because I don't trust them. :) And I have been bottling half a batch and kegging the rest, if the capper would ever break it all goes in the keg.

I broke my hydrometer WHILE BREWING! Wasn't able to get the OG but hoping my nifty Brew Master IPad app calculated it for me correctly.

I never use my hydrometer to calculate anything but my OG so it's only out once during brew day for a few minutes and once or twice near it's finish then it goes right back in to hiding. I've spent my last dime on those things hopefully!
