So, after brewing today and getting a stuck sparge, I disassembled my mash tun to check it out. I had put a spring in the stainless steel braid to keep it from collapsing, and it looked pretty corroded/rusty. Though this was a stout, and could have made it dark? This is only my second mash using this spring.

is this batch going to be unsafe to drink? I'm a little worried, cause I'm not sure what the spring was made of, I thought stainless steel, but its obviously not!

Is rust dangerous?

No. Rust is fine to drink, in moderation. It is rich in iron. Now, go out and buy yourself a better setup.

Well, from what I have read, rust from iron is ok, but rust from non iron material may not be ok. Like I said, not entirely sure what it is made of. It didnt taste metallic or anything when I dumped it in the fermenter....
