You actually inspired a very similar brew with this recipe. I'm going to make your original hef recipe and in 2 weeks I'm brewing a blonde with motueka and citra. They should both be perfect for this 90+ deg heat the summers brining.

Awesome...shoot me some pictures and the recipe, I would love to give it a try!

Dont have any pics yet, will post em when the brews ready. Heres the recipe...

Airhead Blonde Ale

6gal OG 1.042 FG 1.008 IBU 22.5 SRM 4.2

Grain Bill....Mashed @ 150 - 1 hour

9# 2 Row or GP, havent decided yet
.5# Honey Malt

Boil

.5 oz Motueka @ 60 min
.5 oz Motueka @ 10 min + .25 oz Citra @ 10 min
.5 oz Motueka @ 5 min + .25 oz Citra @ 5 min

Fermentation

Ferment in mid 60's
1 pack of Us05 yeast
*Debating on dry hopping a little as well. Im making this as my AHA club contest entry for the light hybrid category so im thinking omitting the dry hop addition might be more accurate to style.

So how potent is the lime flavor. ? I just sampled mine after 2weeks bottled. And im hoping the lime mellows a bit. I know I saw some posts that had little to zero lime taste and I have almost too much. Weird....

(Slim I know you said condition for a month )

Mine faded pretty quickly after bottling. At bottling, I was worried. It's perfect now.

For bottling...3-3-1...3 weeks ferment/condition, 3 weeks in a bottle and 1 day to 1 week in the refrigerator....the lime should turn in to a after taste thats very suttle, I often tell brewers...leave it alone, dont sample it until its done...why because its caused unnecessary stress...you made freaking beer, now its a question of good or great! Summary, let it play out...you will love it in the end and if you dont then you did something wrong....j/k!

This was my second time that I brewed this and it has been great both times! Even using the Golden Promise, it still turned out delicious!

Thanks again for the recipe Slim!

Just finished carbing mine and tried it last night. Great beer, the lime flavor is perfect not too strong. My wife says I need to keep that one on tap for her all the time.

Haha idk how to not sample it....

Well I ran out of this beer, so its time to brew and keg some and brew and bottle some...busy night tonight!

When I go to drink this should I swirl the last bit of the bottle to get all the yeast, like you normally would with a hefe? Or no?

If you accurately racked from your fermenter to your bottling bucket or kegs, you shouldnt have too much yeast...but might have some pulp, which is ok to drink. However if you feel like you brought on a little more than you should, of yeast, then leave the bottom in the bottle or your gonna get gassy!

Well with a hefe you normally swirl the yeast off the bottom of the bottle and add it to the beer. But I'm assuming thats not the way to go with this particular beer that was all.

Brewing my second batch as we speak :)

Sorry for all the ?s and also if this has already been asked but.....
Is the OG you posted adjusted for the Limeade addition or no?

The simply limeade adds 4 pts of gravity which translates to .5% abv increase assuming it all ferments out.

Slim any interest in doing a bottle swap in about 2 weeks?
I want to see how this is supposed to taste?

Maybe in a couple of months...I'm trying to build back up my reserves for upcoming events.

I took a keg of this to a party today. I REALLY wish I had 2 kegs because this keg was kicked in less than 3 hours. This was probably one of the best wheat beers I've had and now its all gone :( Guess that just means I get to brew more!

Just brewed this today, finally got a chance. I can't wait till its done. Og was 1.050 so not bad n got 5.25 gal after boil.

Just finished this as my first all grain brew, undershot my OG and ended up with 1.046 but it's in the fermentation chamber and I'm looking forward to seeing how this ends up tasting! Thanks for the inspiration Slim!

Congratulations on your first all grain...I guess on Fathers Day, you created a beer that's 100% you! I hope you enjoy the beer/recipe and please post pictures of it, we love beer porn!

Brewing this tonite as my first all-grain! So excited, got everything ready to go. Getting ready to pre heat my mash tun and do my first mash!

Congradulations, I hope you enjoy the process and the recipe!

I just ordered everything to make this. Went with Zythos blend instead of Sorachi per Northern Brewer recomendation.

Really looking forward to this one.

I have to be honest...there is no sub for Sorachi Ace, Zythos (in my opinion) is like eating a mouthful of pine needles while chugging a glass of OJ! So if you can, go on Amazon or Google and search for Sorachi Ace...I promise you will be glad you did!

Agreed on the Zythos

there's the links to midwest and rebel.. they currently have them in stock. the hops truly make the beer

OK, just ordered the hops from Midwest. Rebel was out.

Hate paying an additional $6 in shipping, but I'll take your word for it on the hops making the beer.

Now, what will I use the Zythos in...

I made an all Zythos IPA, got second place at the Mount Hope Brewfest in PA. Currently have an all Zythos wheat in primary. It's like a fruit basket but I can see why some people don't like it. Use them for bittering if yer worried.

I'd like to try this with the simply grapefruit as was mentioned earlier. I've been looking into trying to brew something like a Ruby Redbird but every thread I've read about someone trying a clone it turned out nasty. Some of the comments said this has been made with grapefruit so what would y'all think about grapefruit. I believe the problems with other Redbird clones was the sugar in the juice getting fermented and producing weird off flavors because of the acidity. Any input would be great

Thanks

Yeah the hops, yeast and simply limeade are the star attractions...I know it hurts to pay the shipping but it's worth it for a great beer!

Zythos is great in a lot of beer, especially an IPA...it just doesn't fit this recipe!

I think you could get very close to Shiners ruby red bird by subbing limeade for grapefruit and subbing lemon zest for equivalent amount of fresh ginger. Then I would add one ounce of fresh ginger at the same time you add the grapfruit-aide....haven't tried this but in theory it should be pretty close!

Thanks I think this will bet next brew!

The way you've got it worded it makes it sound like you're saying to use limeade instead of grapefruit but I'm assuming you mean grapefruit instead of limeade? Right? Also I'm not set up for kegging would the acidity and sweetness of the grapefruit juice throw off my bottle conditioning?
