Cotton wash cloth (soft) in warm water to remove residue. Then I rinse and fill the bucket with hot tap water and a good dose of oxyclean for a day or 2 soak. Nothing harsh used, they seem smooth....

I love the flavor profile of 1968 but I have also had the same problem. Last year I brewed a Robust Porter and used 1968. It was fermented in the mid 60's and finished at 1.020...a little too high....
