While the pads DO remove the paint and stickers, it's easier and cheaper to do it with paint thinner. It gunks up the pads pretty quick.

Mine is similar. I removed the white plastic liner your reg. is attached to-removed the yellow fluff insulation, and replaced that with the solid-ish blue type stuff. Gained ~ 1'' at least.

No personal exp. with those, but they look cool. No temp. probe, but more info and Fahrenheit readout is nice. Have 2 STC 1000s- ferm chamber and keezer- both have worked well for several years.
