I, too, had a carb problem in the bottles. I went ahead and popped all the tops and transferred all into a keg. Added 3 more oz of brown sugar and that did it. I'm still going to let it mellow out...

I used coffee(espresso) in my very first batch, Redhook Double Black clone. It was great. Especially after 8 months in the bottle. I plan on adding coffee to my next stout.

I dont see much of a problem if you do both, in the mash and boil. Could end up giving you a good citrus flavor. Im doing the same with a pale ale next weekend, if work doesn't interfere.
