well the first runnings OG reading on my refractometer was 1.012 (the expected FG for the recipe). the expected OG was 1.061. well, at least i didn't waste the hops and yeast. thanks for the replies....

i wonder .... since gallon jugs tend to be cheap and the ice tends to freeze on top of the beer/wort, why not just sanitize the bottom of the jug used to freeze and slice/punch a hole in the bottom...
