What temp did you take readings at? Hydrometers are calibrated for 60 or 70 degreesF If one was hot and the other cold that would be the difference.

I use 1 cup to 4 gallons water. Let soak over night and peel lables scrub with scrub pad and rinse with hot water. Some lables a lot easier than others. Sam Adams and bud ale real easy.

Sam Adams bottles, lots of people drink them, so they are easy to find. Also Bud Ale is a good beer to drink and also good bottles for home brew. I was very suprised about the quality of Bud Ale.

Darkestdays you did not say how long you let the beer condition for. Could you just be getting a green beer taste? From what I read on another post you will get a strong alcohol after taste.
