+1 for thermapen. I have dial thermos on my HLT and bk. use the thermapen to make sure they are calibrated and to check my mash temp. Thermapen is a great investment.

+1 on the oxyclean FREE and hot hot water. Works as well as pbw and a LOT cheaper. But I would add pushing both the oxy and sanitizer through with co2.

To recommend a specific recipe, thank you denny, his Wrye Smile Rye IPA is outstanding, best beer I've brewed to date. Make sure to use the wyeast 1450 "Denny's fav 50". Just do it.
