I guess I should have stated that I am not all to concerned about bacteria getting in under a lose carboy cap - rather the airlock or blowoff tube won't bubble if it is lose. That is important to me...

Lagers take much longer to ferment when they are in the 40's, but you say there is airlock activity, so it is moving in the right direction! You can't rush a lager.

I have a satinless one, the pin holding the latch did rust off afte the 2nd use. I now just tie it together with a small piece of string that soaked in StarSan. No problems with that method yet.
