I did the same on all my hoses but I bought my stainless springs from ACE hardware for $0.08 ea. I took a piece of 3/8" silicon with me and tested different springs until I found one that fit snug....

I have an all electric Blichmann 15/15/15 setup and I love it. Currently I brew 5 gallon batches and I have no issues at all. I like the extra room so I don't have to be as attentive to the boil.
