If you want to cut the dip tube, you really don't need any special equipment a 10 dollar pipe cutter will cut it just fine. You can get them on Amazon or any big box home improvement store store.

I've used twist off bottles accidentally before....

I've used twist off bottles accidentally before. The cap was harder to attach. It seemed to seal just fine. Didn't even notice until I opened the bottle. I don't make a habit of it though.

I dry hop in kegs and wrap the hops in cheesecloth, works great, easy to remove. Hell sometimes, I'll just leave the hops in the keg and force carb it with the hops still in it. Some people say not...

Sounds like that might be the problem. How "cold" is cold in the garage...For most beers, 3 weeks at 70 degrees to properly condition beer.

Before the first use, just boil it in water for, say, 10 minutes. Then put it in the brew kettle during the last 10 minutes of the boil to sanitize it.

I don't see that Malto-Dextrin will add any color, and since it is not fermentable, it will not add to the SG. When I use Beersmith, it doesn't change those numbers
