Exactly what Yooper said... You have no guarantee for quality handling from homegrown, and commercially harvested and handled will most likely be MUCH better quality. I like freshhops.com

Why do you prefer homegrown?

Do a preschooler before your wort chiller. Basically it's another chiller that is inline with your cooling water. Fill a bucket with ice water, put the prechiller in there and you're back to chilling...
