I would just follow this advice or use an ale pale. They used Jerries in Australia because they were easy to get and cheap.

I can't taste a difference for priming. As a matter of fact, I add plain old table sugar for the sugar portion of my Belgians and for priming with no off flavors.

I tell you, if I have a cornie or a 7.5 bucket, I wouldn't bother with buying a US Plastics jug. Even if you don't have one, you can get a 7.5 for a lot cheaper than a jerry can.
