They're not wild, a lot of them were sourced...

They're not wild, a lot of them were sourced through the internet. I'll have no idea what their lineage is until I've made my own crosses.

You may not have done anything wrong. From what I've noticed you would need about 200 or so seeds at a 10 to 15% germination rate, to get maybe 3-4 plants that are hardy.

I got over 100 seeds to germinate, planted out about 75 and lost another 25. Of the 50 or so I have left about 15 have really taken off and the rest are just puttering along. They've all germinated...

If they are still viable then by all means plant them. You might want to plant them in a pot or some kind of container so you can monitor the watering better until they establish a good root system....

I had one do the same thing, they sometimes stop growing to expand their root system. First year growth can be a little unpredictable.

Japonicus are annual so they reproduce via seed, so if you dig one up and don't find any rhizomes then most likely it's Japonicus.
